Illora is based in the lap of the Parapanda mountain range. In front of us the multicolour landscape of olive groves and cultivated fields descend to the Fertile plain of the River Genil and unfolds towards the east of the Sierra Nevada. The white cathedral town of Íllora has been built on the slopes of the rocky inland mountain. It was thus called 'The right eye of Granada', a privileged fortress town located in the middle of the Sierra de Parapanda and orientated towards the Fertile plains. Plinio mentions it where the Suevos, Visigoths, Arabs, and the Nasrids specially, built the powerful fortress, around which town was constructed.
